✧ A man's love for some of his women is more than others.

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

«أَرْسَلَ أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ مُضْطَجِعٌ مَعِي فِي مِرْطِي فَأَذِنَ لَهَا» فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَكَ أَرْسَلْنَنِي إِلَيْكَ يَسْأَلْنَكَ الْعَدْلَ فِي ابْنَةِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَأَنَا سَاكِتَةٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَيْ بُنَيَّةُ أَلَسْتِ تُحِبِّينَ مَا أُحِبُّ» قَالَتْ بَلَى قَالَ فَأَحِبِّي هَذِهِ فَقَامَتْ فَاطِمَةُ حِينَ سَمِعَتْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَى أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَتْهُنَّ بِالَّذِي قَالَتْ وَالَّذِي قَالَ لَهَا فَقُلْنَ لَهَا مَا نَرَاكِ أَغْنَيْتِ عَنَّا مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَارْجِعِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُولِي لَهُ «إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَكَ يَنْشُدْنَكَ الْعَدْلَ فِي ابْنَةِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ» فَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ «لَا وَاللهِ لَا أُكَلِّمُهُ فِيهَا أَبَدًا» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ «فَأَرْسَلَ أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُسَامِينِي مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الْمَنْزِلَةِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَمْ أَرَ امْرَأَةً قَطُّ خَيْرًا فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ زَيْنَبَ وَأَتْقَى لِلَّهِ وَأَصْدَقَ حَدِيثًا وَأَوْصَلَ لِلرَّحِمِ وَأَعْظَمَ صَدَقَةً وَأَشَدَّ ابْتِذَالًا لِنَفْسِهَا فِي الْعَمَلِ الَّذِي تَصَدَّقُ بِهِ وَتَقَرَّبُ بِهِ إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ مَا عَدَا سَوْرَةً مِنْ حِدَّةٍ كَانَتْ فِيهَا تُسْرِعُ فِيهَا الْفَيْئَةَ» فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَعَ عَائِشَةَ فِي مِرْطِهَا عَلَى الْحَالِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ دَخَلَتْ فَاطِمَةُ عَلَيْهَا فَأَذِنَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَزْوَاجَكَ أَرْسَلْنَنِي إِلَيْكَ يَسْأَلْنَكَ الْعَدْلَ فِي ابْنَةِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَوَقَعَتْ بِي فَاسْتَطَالَتْ وَأَنَا أَرْقُبُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَرْقُبُ طَرَفَهُ هَلْ يَأْذَنُ لِي فِيهَا فَلَمْ تَبْرَحْ زَيْنَبُ حَتَّى عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَنْتَصِرَ فَلَمَّا وَقَعْتُ بِهَا لَمْ أَنْشَبْهَا حَتَّى أَنْحَيْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهَا ابْنَةُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ» [152] 8842 أَخْبَرَنِي عِمْرَانُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ وَقَالَتْ فَأَرْسَلَ أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ زَيْنَبَ فَاسْتَأْذَنَتْ فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فَدَخَلَتْ فَقَالَتْ نَحْوَهُ خَالَفَهُمَا مَعْمَرٌ فَرَوَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

✧ The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked permission to enter while he was lying with me under my woolen cloak, and he gave her permission. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, your wives have sent me to you asking you for fairness regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah." I remained silent. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: "O my daughter, do you not love what I love?" She said: "Yes." He said: "Then love this one." Fatimah got up when she heard that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and returned to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ and told them what she had said and what he had said to her. They said to her: "We do not think you have helped us at all. Go back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and say to him: 'Your wives ask you for fairness regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah.'" Fatimah said: "No, by Allah, I will never speak to him about her again." Aishah said: "The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Zaynab bint Jahsh to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was the one who rivaled me among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ in status with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I have never seen a woman better in religion than Zaynab, more God-fearing, more truthful in speech, more maintaining of kinship ties, greater in charity, and more devoted to exhausting herself in the work by which she gave charity and drew near to Allah, may He be exalted, except for a surge of sharpness that was in her, from which she quickly recovered." She asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was with Aishah under her cloak, in the same state as when Fatimah had entered. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her permission. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, your wives have sent me to you asking you for fairness regarding the daughter of Abu Quhafah." Then she turned on me and began to insult me, while I watched the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and watched his eyes to see if he would allow me to respond. Zaynab did not stop until I knew that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not dislike me defending myself. When I responded to her, I did not hesitate to overpower her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "She is the daughter of Abu Bakr." [152] 8842 Imran b. Bakkar al-Himsi informed me saying: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us saying: Shuayb informed us from al-Zuhri who said: Muhammad b. Abd al-Rahman b. al-Harith b. Hisham informed me that Aishah said... then he mentioned something similar, and she said: "The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Zaynab. She asked permission and he gave her permission. She entered and said something similar." Mamar differed from them, narrating it from al-Zuhri from Urwah from Aishah.
