أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَتَبَ إِلَى قَيْصَرَ يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَبَعَثَ بِكِتَابِهِ مَعَ دِحْيَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ وَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَدْفَعَهُ إِلَى عَظِيمِ بُصْرَى لِيَدْفَعَهُ إِلَى قَيْصَرَ فَدَفَعَهُ عَظِيمُ بُصْرَى إِلَى قَيْصَرَ وَكَانَ قَيْصَرُ لَمَّا كَشَفَ اللهُ عَنْهُ جُنُودَ فَارِسَ مَشَى مِنْ حِمْصَ إِلَى إِيلِيَاءَ شُكْرًا لَمَّا أَبْلَاهُ اللهُ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ قَيْصَرَ كِتَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ حِينَ قَرَأَهُ «الْتَمِسُوا هَلْ هَاهُنَا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ لِيَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ » مُخْتَصَرٌ

✧ He informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to Caesar inviting him to Islam. He sent his letter with Dihyah al-Kalbi and commanded him to deliver it to the governor of Busra so that he might deliver it to Caesar. The governor of Busra delivered it to Caesar. When Allah had driven back the armies of Persia from Caesar, he walked from Homs to Iliya' (Jerusalem) in gratitude for what Allah had granted him. When the letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Caesar, he said upon reading it, "Seek out whether there is anyone here from his people so that I may ask him about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
