أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَبَلَةَ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ أَعْيَنَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ «§وَهُوَ أَحَدُ الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ تِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ يُحَدِّثُ» قَالَ

قَلَّمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَغْزُو غَزْوَةً إِلَّا وَرَّى بِخَبَرِهَا وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ بِغَيْرِهَا حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَلَّى لِلنَّاسِ فِيهَا أَمْرَهُ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَتَأَهَّبَ النَّاسُ أُهْبَةَ غَزْوِهِمْ

✧ Rarely did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on any expedition without concealing its news [i.e., misleading as to the destination], and Muhammad would mention a different one—until the expedition of Tabuk came. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and made his matter clear to the people in it, and he wanted the people to prepare the equipment for their expedition.
