أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَكَانَ شَهِدَ بِدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ فَسَمِعْتُ الْأَنْصَارَ بِقُدُومِهِ فَوَافَتْ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ انْصَرَفَ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ رَآهُمْ فَقَالَ «أَظُنُّكُمْ قَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ قَدْ جَاءَ وَجَاءَ بِشَيْءٍ؟» قَالُوا أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُبْسَطَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُلْهِيَكُمْ كَمَا أَلْهَتْهُمْ»

✧ He informed him that Amr b. Awf, who had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah to al-Bahrayn to bring its jizyah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made peace with the people of al-Bahrayn and appointed al-Ala b. al-Hadrami over them. Abu Ubaydah came with wealth from al-Bahrayn, and the Ansar heard of his arrival, so they attended the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had prayed the dawn prayer, he departed, and they approached him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, "I think you have heard that Abu Ubaydah has come and brought something?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then rejoice and hope for what pleases you, for by Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but I fear for you that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, so you will compete for it as they competed, and it will divert you as it diverted them."
