✧ What the Imam must do and what is obligatory for him

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزِّنَادِ مِمَّا حَدَّثَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَعْرَجُ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ فَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَعَدَلَ كَانَ لَهُ بِذَلِكَ أَجْرًا وَإِنْ يَأْمُرْ بِغَيْرِهِ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُ»

✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, and he said: "The imam is only a shield; fighting is done behind him and protection is sought through him. If he commands the fear of Allah and is just, he will have a reward for that; and if he commands otherwise, then upon him is [the burden] of it."
