أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُرَّةَ عَنْ فَاخِتَةَ قَالَتْ

أَجَرْنَا رَجُلَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَمَوَيْنِ لِي فَتَفَلَّتَ عَلَيْهِمَا ابْنُ أَبِي لِيَقْتُلَهُمَا فَقُلْتُ «لَا تَقْتُلْهُمَا حَتَّى تَبْدَأَ بِي فَخَرَجَ» فَقُلْتُ أَغْلِقُوا دُونَهُ الْبَابَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ خِبَاءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ وَوَجَدْتُ فَاطِمَةَ فَقُلْتُ «أَلَمْ تَرِي مَا لَقِيتُ مِنِ ابْنِ أَبِي؟ فَعَلَ بِي كَذَا وَكَذَا فَكَانَتْ أَشَدَّ عَلَيَّ مِنْ زَوْجِهَا» فَقَالَتْ «تُجِيرِينَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَطَلَعَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْهِ وَهَجُ الْغُبَارِ» فَقَالَ «مَرْحَبًا بِفَاخِتَةَ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ «أَلَمْ تَرَ مَا لَقِيتُ مِنِ ابْنِ أَبِي؟ أَجَرْتُ حَمَوَيْنِ لِي مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَقْتُلَهُمَا» فَقَالَ لَيْسَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ قَدْ أَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتَ وَأَمَّنَّا مَنْ أَمَّنْتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا فَاطِمَةُ «اسْكُبِي لِي غُسْلًا فَسَكَبْتُ لَهُ فَاغْتَسَلَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى ثَمَانِ رَكَعَاتٍ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ قَدْ خَالَفَ بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ»

✧ We gave protection to two men of the polytheists, my two brothers-in-law. Ibn Abi slipped away to kill them, and I said: "Do not kill them until you begin with me." He went out, and I said: Lock the door behind him. I went until I came to the tent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but I did not find him; I found Fatimah and said: "Did you not see what I encountered from Ibn Abi? He did such-and-such to me." She was harder on me than her husband and said: "You grant protection to polytheists?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appeared, covered in dust, and said: "Welcome to Fakhitah." I said: O Messenger of Allah, did you not see what I encountered from Ibn Abi? I granted protection to my two brothers-in-law among the polytheists, and he wanted to kill them. He said: "He has no right to that. We have granted protection to whom you protected, and security to whom you secured." Then he said: "O Fatimah, pour water for me to bathe." She poured for him, and he bathed, then prayed eight rakʿahs in a single garment, crossing its ends.
