أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ
أَنَّهُ قَالَ «رُمِيَ يَوْمَ الْأَحْزَابِ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ فَقَطَعُوا أَكْحَلَهُ فَحَسَمَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالنَّارِ فَانْتَفَخَتْ يَدُهُ فَتَرَكَهُ فَنَزَفَهُ الدَّمُ فَحَسَمَهُ أُخْرَى فَانْتَفَخَتْ يَدُهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ» قَالَ «اللهُمَّ لَا تُخْرِجْ نَفْسِي حَتَّى تُقِرَّ عَيْنِي مِنْ بَنِي قُرَيْظَةَ فَاسْتَمْسَكَ عِرْقُهُ فَمَا قَطَرَ قَطْرَةً حَتَّى نَزَلُوا عَلَى حُكْمِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَحَكَمَ أَنْ تُقْتَلَ رِجَالُهُمْ وَيُسْتَحْيَى نِسَاؤُهُمْ ويَسْتَعِينُ بِهِمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَصَبْتَ حُكْمَ اللهِ فِيهِمْ وَكَانُوا أَرْبَعَمِائَةٍ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ قَتْلِهِمُ انْفَتَقَ عِرْقُهُ فَمَاتَ»

✧ He said: On the day of the Confederates, Saʿd ibn Muʿadh was struck by an arrow, and they severed his median vein. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cauterized it with fire, and his hand became swollen. He left it, and the blood drained him. He cauterized it again, and his hand became swollen. When he saw that, he said: "O Allah, do not take my soul until my eye is cooled regarding the Banu Qurayzah." His vein held, and not a drop flowed until they descended upon the judgment of Saʿd ibn Muʿadh. He sent for him, and he judged that their men be killed, their women be spared, and the Muslims seek help from them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "You have hit upon the judgment of Allah concerning them." They were four hundred. When he finished killing them, his vein burst and he died.
