أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

جَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ خَيِّرْ أَصْحَابَكَ فِي الْأُسَارَى إِنْ شَاءُوا فِي الْقَتْلِ وَإِنْ شَاءُوا فِي الْفِدَاءِ عَلَى أَنْ يُقْتَلَ عَامًا مُقْبِلًا مَثَلُهُمْ مِنْهُمٍ فَقَالُوا «الْفِدَاءُ وَيُقْتَلُ مِنَّا» 8609 وَعَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ غَيْلَانَ عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ الْحَفْرِيِّ بِهِ

✧ Gabriel came to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Badr and said: 'Give your companions a choice regarding the captives: if they wish, execution; and if they wish, ransom, on condition that a like number of them be killed next year.' They said: 'Ransom, and some of us will be killed.' 8609 And from Mahmud b. Ghaylan from Abu Dawud al-Hafari with the same narration.
