أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَضَّاحُ وَهُوَ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ أَبُو بَلْجٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَأَبْعَثَنَّ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ لَا يُخْزِيهِ اللهُ أَبَدًا فَأَشْرَفَ مَنِ اسْتَشْرَفَ» قَالَ «أَيْنَ عَلِيٌّ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ؟ وَهُوَ فِي الرَّحَى يَطْحَنُ فَدَعَاهُ وَهُوَ أَرْمَدُ مَا يَكَادُ أَنْ يُبْصِرَ فَنَفَثَ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ وَهَزَّ الرَّايَةَ ثَلَاثًا فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَيْهِ فَجَاءَ بِصَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَيٍّ» مُخْتَصَرٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I will surely send a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love, and Allah will never disgrace him." Those who were eager craned their necks. He said, "Where is Ali ibn Abi Talib?" He was at the mill grinding. He called him while he had sore eyes and could hardly see. He blew into his eyes, shook the banner three times, and handed it to him. He came back with Safiyyah bint Huyayy. (Abridged)
