أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرِوُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ حَصِينٍ عَنْ أَبِي ظَبْيَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ
بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي جَيْشٍ إِلَى الْحُرُقَاتِ حَيٍّ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ فَلَمَّا يَعْنِي هَزَمْنَاهُمِ ابْتَدَرْتُ أَنَا وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ فَكَفَّ عَنْهُ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا قَالَهَا تَعَوُّذًا فَقَتَلْتُهُ فَرَجَعَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَحَدَّثَهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَا أُسَامَةُ قَتَلْتَ رَجُلًا بَعْدَ أَنْ قَالَ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ؟ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ بِلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ؟» فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ أَسْلَمْتُ إِلَّا يَوْمَئِذٍ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us in an army to al-Huraqat, a tribe of Juhaynah. When we defeated them, a man from the Ansar and I rushed toward a man from among them. He said, "There is no god but Allah." The Ansari held back from him, but I thought he said it only to seek protection, so I killed him. The Ansari returned to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the story. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Usamah, you killed a man after he said 'There is no god but Allah'? How will you deal with 'There is no god but Allah' on the Day of Resurrection?" He kept repeating that until I wished I had not embraced Islam until that day.
