أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ يَخْطُبُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ بَنِي هِشَامٍ اسْتَأْذَنُونِي فِي أَنْ يَنْكِحُوا ابْنَتَهُمْ عَلِيًّا وَإِنِّي لَا آذَنُ ثُمَّ لَا آذَنُ إِلَّا أَنْ يُرِيدَ ابْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنْ يُفَارِقَ ابْنَتِي وَأَنْ يَنْكِحَ ابْنَتَهُمْ» ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ مُضْغَةٌ أَوْ بِضْعَةٌ مِنِّي يُؤْذِينِي مَا آذَاهَا وَيَرِيبُنِي مَا أَرَابَهَا وَمَا كَانَ لَهُ أَنْ يَجْمَعَ بَيْنَ بِنْتِ عَدُوِّ اللهِ وَبَيْنَ ابْنَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah giving a sermon, then he said: "The Banu Hisham asked my permission to marry their daughter to 'Ali, and I do not permit it, then I do not permit it, unless the son of Abi Talib wishes to part with my daughter and marry their daughter." Then he said: "Fatimah is a lump of flesh or a piece of me: what hurts her hurts me, and what troubles her troubles me. And it is not for him to combine between the daughter of the enemy of Allah and the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
