✧ When the Prophet ﷺ returned from the Umrah of al-Ji'ranah, he sent Abu Bakr to lead the Hajj. We set out with him until when we were at al-Arj, the call for the Fajr prayer was given. Then he stood up to say the takbir and heard the growling of a camel behind him, so he paused from the takbir and said, "This is the growling of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ camel. It seems that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has changed his mind about the Hajj, so perhaps it is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we may pray with him." But it was Ali upon it. Abu Bakr said to him, "Are you a commander or a messenger?" He said, "No, rather a messenger. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with Bara'ah to recite it to the people at the stations of Hajj." We arrived in Makkah, and one day before the Day of Tarwiyah, Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, telling them about their rituals. When he finished, Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then we went out with him until the Day of Arafah. Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, telling them about their rituals. When he finished, Ali stood and recited Surat Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then on the Day of Sacrifice, we departed. When Abu Bakr returned, he addressed the people, telling them about their departure, their sacrifices, and their rituals. When he finished, Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it. Then on the first day of departure, Abu Bakr stood and addressed the people, telling them how to depart and how to throw stones, and taught them their rituals. When he finished, Ali stood and recited Bara'ah to the people until he completed it.
