أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ «أَلَمْ آتِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ ضُلَّالٌ فَهَدَاكُمُ اللهُ بِي؟» قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «أَوَلَمْ آتِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ أَعْدَاءٌ فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَكُمْ بِي؟» قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ أَفَلَا تَقُولُونَ أَلَمْ تَأْتِنَا خَائِفًا فَآمَنَّاكَ؟ وَطَرِيدًا فَآوَيْنَاكَ؟ وَمَخْذُولًا فَنَصَرْنَاكَ؟ قَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ بَلِ الْمَنُّ لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, "O company of the Ansar, did I not come to you while you were astray, and Allah guided you through me?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Did I not come to you while you were enemies, and He united your hearts through me?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Will you not say: You came to us fleeing and we gave you refuge, and expelled and we sheltered you, and forsaken and we helped you?" The Ansar said, "Rather, the favor belongs to Allah and His Messenger."
