أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ

قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ وَإِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَأَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَانُوا مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ لِأَنَّهُمْ هَجَرُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَكَانَ الْأَنْصَارُ مُهَاجِرِينَ لَأَنَّ الْمَدِينَةَ كَانَتْ دَارَ شِرْكٍ فَجَاءُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ»

Translation

✧ Ibn Abbas said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ was in Makkah, and Abu Bakr, Umar, and the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ were among the emigrants because they emigrated away from the polytheists. And the Ansar were emigrants because Madinah was a land of polytheism, so they came to the Prophet ﷺ on the night of al-Aqabah.'
