✧ The Virtues of Ja'far b. Abi Talib

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ أَبِي أَخْبَرَنَا قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ سُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَأَمَرَ الْمُنَادِيَ أَنْ يُنَادِيَ الصَّلَاةُ جَامِعَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ثَابَ خَبَرٌ ثَابَ خَبَرٌ ثَابَ خَبَرٌ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ عَنْ جَيْشِكُمْ هَذَا الْغَازِي؟ إِنَّهُمُ انْطَلِقُوا حَتَّى إِذَا لَقُوَا الْعَدُوَّ لَكِنَّ زَيْدًا أُصِيبَ شَهِيدًا فَاسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللِّوَاءَ جَعْفَرٌ فَشَدَّ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقُتِلَ شَهِيدًا أَنَا أَشْهَدُ لَهُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ فَاسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللِّوَاءَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ فَأَثْبَتَ قَدَمَيْهِ حَتَّى أُصِيبَ شَهِيدًا فَاسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ اللِّوَاءَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ضَبْعَيْهِ» وَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ هَذَا سَيْفٌ مِنْ سُيُوفِكَ فَانْتَصِرْ بِهِ فَيَوْمَئِذٍ سُمَيَّ خَالِدٌ سَيْفَ اللهِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and ordered the caller to announce that prayer is to be held in congregation. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "News has come, news has come, news has come. Shall I not inform you about this army of yours that went out on campaign? They set out until they met the enemy, but Zayd was struck down as a martyr, so ask forgiveness for him. Then Ja'far took the banner and charged the people until he was killed as a martyr; I bear witness for him to martyrdom, so ask forgiveness for him. Then Abd Allah b. Rawahah took the banner and planted his feet firmly until he was struck down as a martyr, so ask forgiveness for him. Then Khalid b. al-Walid took the banner, and he was not one of the commanders." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his arms and said: "O Allah, this is one of Your swords, so grant victory through him." Thus on that day Khalid was named the Sword of Allah.
