أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ قَالَ

اسْتَعْمَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى جَيْشِ ذَاتِ السَّلَاسِلِ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ؟ قَالَ «عَائِشَةُ» قُلْتُ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ؟ قَالَ «أَبُوهَا» قُلْتُ ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ قَالَ «ثم عُمَرُ» فَعَدَّ رِجَالًا قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بَعْضُ حُرُوفِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ لَمْ تَصِحَّ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed me over the army of Dhat al-Salasil. I came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is most beloved to you?' He said: ''A'ishah.' I said: 'Of the men?' He said: 'Her father.' I said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Then 'Umar.' And he counted some men.' Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: 'Some of the words of Abu 'Uthman are not correct.'
