أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ آدَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ §وُضِعَ عُمَرُ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ اكْتَنَفَهُ النَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَيْهِ وَيَدْعُونَ قَبْلَ يُرْفَعُ وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ فَلَمْ يَرُعْنِي إِلَّا رَجُلٌ قَدْ أَخَذَ مَنْكِبَيَّ مِنْ وَرَائِي فَالْتَفَتُّ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ يَتَرَحَّمُ عَلَى عُمَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا خَلَّفْتُ أَحَدًا أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ

أَنْ أَلْقَى اللهَ بِمِثْلِ عَمَلِهِ مِنْكَ وَايْمُ اللهِ إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرَى أَنْ يَجْعَلَكَ اللهُ مَعَ صَاحِبَيْكَ وَذَلِكَ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ ذَهَبْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَدَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَخَرَجَتْ أَنَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَإِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَظُنُّ أَنْ يَجْعَلَكَ اللهُ مَعَهُمَا

Translation

✧ …that I may meet Allah with the like of his deeds from you. By Allah, I used to think that Allah would place you with your two companions, because I used to hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'I went, I and Abu Bakr and 'Umar; I entered, I and Abu Bakr and 'Umar; I went out, I and Abu Bakr and 'Umar.' And I used to think that Allah would place you with them.
