أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْمُقْرِئِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قُبَاثُ بْنُ رَزِينٍ أَبُو هَاشِمٍ اللَّخْمِيُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ رَبَاحٍ اللَّخْمِيَّ يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ يَقُولُ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ نَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمَ فَرَدَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ فَقَالَ «تَعَلَّمُوا كِتَابَ اللهِ وَاقْتَنُوهُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَهُوَ أَشَدُّ تَفَلُّتًا مِنَ الْعِشَارِ فِي الْعُقُلِ»

✧ I heard ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir al-Juhanī say: “We were sitting in the mosque reciting the Qur’ān when the Messenger of God ﷺ entered upon us, greeted us, and we returned the greeting. He said, ‘Learn the Book of God and keep it. By the One in whose hand is Muḥammad’s soul, it slips away more readily than a she-camel from its tether.’”
