✧ The transaction in what is loved and what is hated

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ وَالشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَا قَالَ

جَرِيرٌ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أُبَايِعُكَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِيمَا أَحْبَبْتُ وَفِيمَا كَرِهْتُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوَ تَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ يَا جَرِيرُ أَوَ تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ فَبَايَعَنِي وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

Translation

✧ Jarir said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him: I pledge allegiance to you to hear and obey in what I love and what I hate. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Can you do that, O Jarir, or are you able to do that?" He said: Say: "As much as I can." So he pledged allegiance to me and to give sincere counsel to every Muslim.
