أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَشَجُّ بَنِي عَصْرٍ قَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ فِيكَ خُلُقَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا اللهُ» قُلْتُ مَا هُمَا؟ قَالَ «الْحِلْمُ وَالْحَيَاءُ» قَالَ أَقَدِيمًا كَانَا أَوْ حَدِيثًا؟ قَالَ «لَا بَلْ قَدِيمًا» قُلْتُ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَبَلَنِي عَلَى خُلُقَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا اللهُ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: You have two traits that Allah loves. I said: What are they? He said: Forbearance and modesty. I said: Have they been in me from old or are they recent? He said: No, rather from old. I said: Praise be to Allah who created me with two traits that Allah loves.
