✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ came to Madinah, his Companions fell ill, and Abu Bakr, ‘Amir b. Fuhayrah the freedman of Abu Bakr, and Bilal fell ill. ‘A’ishah asked the Messenger of God ﷺ for permission to visit them, and he permitted her. She said to Abu Bakr, “How do you find yourself?” He said: “Every man is met in the morning among his family, while death is closer than his sandal strap.” She asked ‘Amir b. Fuhayrah, and he said: “I have seen death before tasting it. The coward’s death comes from above him.” She asked Bilal, and he said: “Would that I knew whether I shall spend a night in a valley with idhkhir and jalil around me; shall I one day come to the waters of Majannah, and will Shama and Tafil appear before me?” Then she came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and told him what they had said. He looked up at the sky and said: “O God, make Madinah beloved to us. O God, bless us in its sa‘ and its mudd. Transfer its fever to Mahya‘ah, that is, al-Juhfah.”
