✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, Abu Bakr and Bilal fell ill. I entered upon them and said: “O Abu Bakr, how do you find yourself? O Bilal, how do you find yourself?” She said: When Abu Bakr was seized by fever he would say: “Every man is greeted in the morning among his family, while death is closer to him than his sandal strap.” And when Bilal’s fever abated he would raise his voice and say: “Would that I knew whether I will spend a night in a valley with sweet rush and fresh grass around me, and whether I will one day come to the waters of Majannah, and whether Shāmah and Ṭafīl will appear to me.” ʿĀʾishah said: I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him, and he said: “O Allah, make Madinah beloved to us as we love Makkah or more, and make it healthy, and bless us in its ṣāʿ and its mudd, and remove its fever and place it in al-Juḥfah.”
