al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 7323

✧ The man forgives the thief after the Imam comes to him, and the mention of the differences in giving in the narration of Safwan b. Umayyah in it.

أَخْبَرَنَا هِلَالُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَرَقَ بُرْدَةً لَهُ فَرَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِهِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ تَجَاوَزْتُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَبَا وَهْبٍ أَفَلَا كَانَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْتِينَا بِهِ فَقَطَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ A man stole a cloak belonging to him, so he brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, who ordered his hand to be cut off. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have forgiven him." He said, "Abu Wahb, why was it not before you brought him to us?" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut off his hand.
