✧ Is it permissible for a prostration to be longer than a prostration?

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ الطَّرَسُوسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ الْبَصْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيِ الْعَشِيِّ وَهُوَ حَامِلٌ حَسَنًا أَوْ حُسَيْنًا فَتَقَدَّمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَوَضَعَهُ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ لِلصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّى فَسَجَدَ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيْ صَلَاتِهِ سَجْدَةً أَطَالَهَا قَالَ أَبِي فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي فَإِذَا الصَّبِيُّ عَلَى ظَهْرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى سُجُودِي فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ النَّاسُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّكَ سَجَدْتَ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَيْ صَلَاتِكَ سَجْدَةً أَطَلْتَهَا حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ قَدْ حَدَثَ أَمْرٌ أَوْ أَنَّهُ يُوحَى إِلَيْكَ قَالَ «كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ وَلَكِنَّ ابْنِي ارْتَحَلَنِي فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُعَجِّلَهُ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us for one of the evening prayers carrying Hasan or Husayn. The Prophet ﷺ came forward, put him down, then said the takbir for prayer and prayed. During the prayer he made a prostration and prolonged it. My father said, “I raised my head and saw the child on the Prophet’s back while he was prostrating, so I returned to my prostration.” When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, the people said, “O Messenger of Allah, you prostrated during the prayer a prostration that you prolonged until we thought something had happened or that revelation was coming to you.” He said, “None of that happened, but my son climbed on me and I disliked to hurry him until he finished his need.”
