أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ
إِنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ مِنَ امْرَأَةٍ مَا دُونَ الْجِمَاعِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ} [هود 114] إِلَى {ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ} [هود 114] فَقَالَ معاذ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَهُ خَاصَّةً؟ فَقَالَ «بَلِ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً»

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "I did with a woman everything short of intercourse." Then Allah sent down this verse: {And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approaches of the night} [Hud: 114] up to {a reminder for those who remember} [Hud: 114]. Mu'adh said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it for him specifically?" He said: "Rather, for all people generally."
