أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ هَزَّالٍ وَكَانَ هَزَّالٌ اسْتَرْجَمَ مَاعِزًا قَالَ كَانَتْ لِأَهْلِي جَارِيَةٌ تَرْعَى غَنَمًا لَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهَا فَاطِمَةُ قَدْ أُمْلِكَتْ وَأَنَّ مَاعِزًا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهَا وَأَنَّ هَزَّالًا أَخَذَهُ فَقَالَ

لَهُ انْطَلِقْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَتُخْبِرَهُ بِالَّذِي صَنَعْتَ عَسَى أَنْ يَنْزِلَ فِيكَ قُرْآنٌ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَرُجِمَ فَلَمَّا عَضَّتْهُ مَسُّ الْحِجَارَةِ انْطَلَقَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَهُ رَجُلٌ بِكَذَا وَكَذَا أَوْ بِسَاقِ بَعِيرٍ فَضَرَبَهُ فَصَرَعَهُ فَقَالَ «يَا هَزَّالُ لَوْ سَتَرْتَهُ بِثَوْبِكَ كَانَ خَيْرًا لَكَ»

✧ He said to him, “Go to the Prophet ﷺ and tell him what you have done; perhaps a Qur'anic verse will be revealed about you.” So the Prophet ﷺ ordered him and he was stoned. When the touch of the stones bit him, he ran off. A man met him with such-and-such, or with the shinbone of a camel, and struck him and knocked him down. He said, “O Hazzal, if you had concealed him with your garment, it would have been better for you.”
