أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَبَّانُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ هُوَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هِضَاضٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ مَاعِزًا أَتَى رَجُلًا يُقَالُ لَهُ هَزَّالُ فَقَالَ يَا هَزَّالُ إِنَّ الْآخَرَ قَدْ زَنَا فَمَا تَرَى؟ قَالَ

ائْتِ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ فِيكَ الْقُرْآنُ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ زَنَا فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَهُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَهُ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَتِ الرَّابِعَةُ أَمَرَ بِرَجْمِهِ فَلَمَّا رُجِمَ لَجَأَ إِلَى شَجَرَةٍ فَقُتِلَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لِصَاحِبِهِ هَذَا الَّذِي قُتِلَ كَمَا يُقْتَلُ الْكَلْبُ فَأَتَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى حِمَارٍ مَيِّتٍ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا «انْهَسَا مِنْ هَذَا الْحِمَارِ» فَقَالَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِيفَةٌ مَيِّتَةٌ كَيْفَ نَنْهَسُ مِنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ «الَّذِي أَصَبْتُمَا مِنْ أَخِيكُمَا أَنْتَنُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ إِنَّهُ لَيَنْغَمِسُ فِي أَنْهَارِ الْجَنَّةِ» وَقَالَ لِهَزَّالٍ وَيْحَكَ يَا هَزَّالُ أَلَا رَحْمَتَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ هِضَاضٍ لَيْسَ بِمَشْهُورٍ وَقَدِ اخْتُلِفَ عَلَى أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ فِي اسْمِ أَبِيهِ

✧ "Go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before the Qur'an is revealed concerning you." So he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that he had committed adultery. He turned away from him. Then he informed him again, and he turned away from him. Then he informed him again, and he turned away from him, four times. When it was the fourth time, he ordered him to be stoned. When he was stoned, he took refuge at a tree and was killed. A man said to his companion: This one was killed as a dog is killed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon a dead donkey and said to them: "Bite from this donkey." They said: O Messenger of Allah, it is a dead carcass, how can we bite from it? He said: "What you have said about your brother is more putrid. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, he is plunging into the rivers of Paradise." And he said to Hazzal: "Woe to you, O Hazzal, did you not have mercy on him?" Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Abd al-Rahman b. Hidad is not well-known, and there is disagreement about Abu al-Zubayr regarding his father's name.
