What the Prophet ﷺ said as he passed away, may my father and mother be sacrificed for him

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ كُنْتُ

أَسْمَعَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَمُوتُ حَتَّى يُخَيَّرَ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ فَأَخَذَتْهُ بُحَّةٌ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ وَحَسُنَ أولَئِكَ رَفِيقًا فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ خُيِّرَ»

✧ I heard that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not die until he was given the choice between this world and the Hereafter. He developed hoarseness in the illness in which he died, and I heard him saying: “With those You have favored, among the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous—and excellent are those as companions.” So I thought he had been given the choice.
