أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِشَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ وَعِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ وَفْدَ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَرْبَعٍ وَنَهَاهُمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعٍ نَهَاهُمْ عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي الْحَنْتَمِ وَالدُّبَّاءِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ قَالُوا فَفِيمَ نَشْرَبُ؟ قَالَ «عَلَيْكُمْ بِأَسْقِيَةِ الْأُدْمِ وَالَّتِي يُلَاثُ عَلَى أَفْوَاهِهَا» خَالَفَهُ دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ

✧ The delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he commanded them four things and forbade them four things. He forbade them from drinking in the green jar (hantam), the gourd (dubba), the hollowed stump (naqir), and the pitch-coated vessel (muzaffat). They said, "In what should we drink?" He said, "Stick to leather water-skins (asqiyat al-udm) and those whose mouths are tied." Dawud b. Abi Hind disagreed with him.
