✧ If he dies suddenly, is it recommended for his family to donate on his behalf?

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ أُمِّي افْتُلِتَتْ نَفْسُهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَوْ تَكَلَّمَتْ تَصَدَّقَتْ أَفَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَعَمْ» فَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا

Translation

✧ It was said to the Prophet ﷺ: “My mother died suddenly, and had she spoken she would have given charity. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Yes.” So he gave charity on her behalf.
