أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ يَعْنِي الثَّوْرِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ وَاسْمُهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَرْوَانَ عَنْ هُزَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى وَهُوَ الْأَمِيرُ وَسُفْيَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ فَسَأَلَهُمَا عَنِ ابْنَةٍ وَابْنَةِ ابْنٍ وَأُخْتٍ لِأَبٍ وَأُمٍّ قَالَ لِلِابْنَةِ النِّصْفُ وَمَا بَقِيَ فَلِلْأُخْتِ وَائْتِ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَإِنَّهُ سَيُتَابِعُنَا فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَسَأَلَهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَا فَقَالَ

ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لَقَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُهْتَدِينَ وَلَكِنِّي سَأَقْضِي بِمَا قَضَى بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلِابْنَةِ النِّصْفُ وَلِابْنَةِ الِابْنِ السُّدُسُ تَكْمِلَةَ الثُّلُثَيْنِ وَمَا بَقِيَ فَلِلْأُخْتِ

✧ Ibn Mas'ud said: 'Then I would have gone astray and I would not be of the rightly guided. But I will judge as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ judged: the daughter gets half, the son's daughter gets one-sixth to complete the two-thirds, and what remains is for the sister.'
