✧ Selling Dates with Different Dates

أَخْبَرَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِتَمْرٍ رَيَّانَ وَكَانَ تَمْرُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَعْلًا فِيهِ يُبْسٌ قَالَ «أَنَّى لَكُمْ هَذَا؟» قَالُوا ابْتَعْنَاهُ صَاعًا بِصَاعَيْنِ مِنْ تَمْرِنَا فَقَالَ «لَا تَفْعَلْ فَإِنَّ هَذَا لَا يَصْلُحُ بِعْ تَمْرَكَ وَاشْتَرِ مِنْ هَذَا حَاجَتَكَ»

Translation

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought fresh, ripe dates, while the dates of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were unirrigated and somewhat dry. He said: "How did you get this?" They said: We bought it by giving a sa' for two sa's of our dates. He said: "Do not do that, for this is not permissible. Sell your dates and buy what you need of this."
