al-Sunan al-Kubra (al-Nasa'i) 5919

✧ The expansion of the ruler to say to a thing that he does not do: "I am doing it to clarify the truth.

أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ خَرَجَتِ امْرَأَتَانِ وَمَعَهُمَا صَبِيَّانِ لَهُمَا فَعَدَا الذِّئْبُ عَلَى إِحْدَاهُمَا فَأَخَذَ وَلَدَهَا فَأَصْبَحَتَا تَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي الصَّبِيِّ الْبَاقِي اخْتَصَمَتَا إِلَى دَاوُدَ النَّبِيِّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَضَى بِهِ لِلْكُبْرَى مِنْهُمَا فَمَرَّتَا عَلَى سُلَيْمَانَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ أَمْرُكُمَا؟ فَقَصَّتَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ ائْتُونِي بِالسِّكِّينِ أَشُقُّ الْغُلَامَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَقَالَتِ الصُّغْرَى أَتَشُقُّهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَتْ لَا تَفْعَلْ حَظِّي مِنْهُ لَهَا فَقَالَ هُوَ ابْنُكِ فَقَضَى بِهِ لَهَا

✧ From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said, 'Two women went out with their two young sons. A wolf attacked one of them and took her child. In the morning they were disputing over the remaining boy. They brought their dispute to Dawud, the Prophet, ﷺ, and he ruled in favor of the older of them. They passed by Sulayman, ﷺ, and he said, "What is your situation?" They told him the story, and he said, "Bring me a knife so that I may split the boy between you." The younger one said, "Will you split him?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Do not do it; my share of him is hers." He said, "He is your son," and ruled in his favor for her.'
