أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ هو ابْنِ قَيْسٍ أَبُو زُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا شَكَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلَمْ يَدْرِ أَصَلَّى ثَلَاثًا أَمْ أَرْبَعًا فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَةً تَامَّةً ثُمَّ يَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَإِنْ كَانَتِ تِلْكَ الرَّكْعَةُ خَامِسَةً شَفَعَ بِهَاتَيْنِ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ رَابِعَةً كَانَتَا تَرْغِيمًا لِلشَّيْطَانِ» خَالَفَهُ عِيَاضُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ فِي لَفْظِهِ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When one of you doubts and does not know whether he prayed three or four, let him pray a complete rak‘ah, then prostrate twice while sitting. If that rak‘ah was a fifth, the two prostrations make it even; and if it was a fourth, they are a humiliation for Satan.” ‘Iyāḍ b. Hilāl differed from him in wording.
