✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed a prayer and added or omitted something in it. When he said the salam, we said, “O Prophet of Allah, has something new occurred in the prayer?” He said, “What is that?” He said, so we mentioned to him what he had done. He bent his leg, faced the qiblah, and prostrated the two prostrations of forgetfulness. Then he turned his face toward us and said, “If something new had occurred in the prayer, I would have informed you of it.” Then he said, “I am only a human being; I forget as you forget. So if any of you forgets something in his prayer, let him strive to determine what he thinks is correct, then say the salam, then prostrate the two prostrations of forgetfulness.” Shaqīq b. Salamah Abū Wā’il differed from him and made the striving part of the statement of ‘Abdullāh.
