أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ فَسَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَمْ تُقْصَرْ وَلَمْ أَنَسَ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَحَقٌّ مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

✧ While I was praying Zuhr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the salam after two rak'ahs. A man from Banu Sulaym stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, has the prayer been shortened or did you forget?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It has not been shortened, and I did not forget.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you only prayed two rak'ahs.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Is what Dhu al-Yadayn says true?' They said: 'Yes.' So he stood and prayed two rak'ahs with them.
