أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى بْنِ مَعْدَانَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي كَعْبَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ أَحَدُ الثَّلَاثَةِ الَّذِينَ تِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ

أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِلَى صَاحِبَيَّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تَعْتَزِلُوا نِسَاءَكُمْ قُلْتُ لِلرَّسُولِ أُطَلِّقُ أَمْ مَاذَا أَفْعَلُ؟ قَالَ «لَا بَلْ تَعْتَزِلُهَا وَلَا تَقْرَبْهَا» فَقُلْتُ لِامْرَأَتِي الْحَقِي بِأَهْلِكِ فَكُونِي فِيهِمْ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ اللهُ فَلَحِقَتْ بِهِمْ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ مَعْمَرٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent to me and my two companions: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commands you to separate from your wives." I said to the messenger, "Should I divorce or what should I do?" He said, "No, rather separate from her and do not approach her." So I said to my wife, "Go to your family and stay among them until Allah decides." So she joined them. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Ma'mar differed from him.
