✧ Taking Hold of the Devil's Throat and Strangling Him in Prayer

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الزُّبَيْدِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «بَيْنَا أَنَا قَائِمٌ أُصَلِّي اعْتَرَضَ لِي الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَخَذْتُ بِحَلْقِهِ فَخَنَقْتُهُ حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَجِدُ بَرْدَ لِسَانِهِ عَلَى إِبْهَامِي فَرَحِمَ اللهُ سُلَيْمَانَ لَوْلَا دَعَوْتُهُ أَصْبَحَ مَرْبُوطًا تَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ» خَالَفَهُ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ فِي لَفْظِهِ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said, “While I was standing praying, the devil presented himself to me, so I seized him by the throat and choked him until I felt the coldness of his tongue on my thumb. May Allah have mercy on Sulayman; were it not for his supplication, he would have been tied up and you would have been looking at him.” Abu Salamah differed from him in his wording.
