أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ هُوَ ابْنُ بِلَالٍ قَالَ قَالَ يَحْيَى وَأَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ وَابْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ أَبَا حُذَيْفَةَ بْنَ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ وَكَانَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَبَنَّى سَالِمًا وَهُوَ مَوْلًى لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ كَمَا تَبَنَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ وَأَنْكَحَ أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ سَالِمًا ابْنَةَ أَخِيهِ هِنْدَ بِنْتَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ وَكَانَتْ هِنْدُ بِنْتُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ وَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ أَيَامَى قُرَيْشٍ فَلَمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِي زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ {ادْعُوهُمْ لِآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللهِ} [الأحزاب 5] رَدَّ كُلَّ أَحَدٍ يَنْتَمِي مِنْ أُولَئِكَ إِلَى أَبِيهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُعْلَمُ أَبُوهُ رُدَّ إِلَى مَوَالِيهِ

✧ From 'A'ishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that Abu Hudhayfah b. 'Utbah b. Rabi'ah b. 'Abd Shams, who was among those who witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, adopted Salim, who was a client of a woman from the Ansar, just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ adopted Zayd b. Harithah. Abu Hudhayfah b. Rabi'ah married Salim to his niece Hind bt. al-Walid b. 'Utbah b. Rabi'ah. Hind bt. al-Walid b. Rabi'ah was among the first emigrants and was then one of the best widows of Quraysh. When Allah sent down concerning Zayd b. Harithah: {Call them by their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah} [al-Ahzab 5], everyone among those who traced lineage was returned to his father, and if his father was not known, he was returned to his clients.
