أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «نَهَى عَنِ التَّبَتُّلِ» قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَتَادَةُ أَثْبَتُ وَأَحْفَظُ مِنْ أَشْعَثَ وَحَدِيثُ أَشْعَثَ هَذَا أَشْبَهُ بِالصَّوَابِ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ "forbade celibacy." Abu Abd al-Rahman said to us: Qatadah is more reliable and better memorizer than Ash'ath, but this hadith of Ash'ath is more likely correct, and Allah knows best.
