أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَعْيَنَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ

أَنَّهُ كَاتَبَ غُلَامًا لَهُ عَلَى أَرْبَعَةِ آلَافٍ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ عَنْهُ أَلْفًا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا كَاتَبَ غُلَامًا لَهُ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ عَنْهُ الرُّبُعَ مَا فَعَلْتُ»

✧ He contracted a slave of his for four thousand, then reduced it by one thousand, then said: “Were it not that I saw ʿAlī contract a slave of his then reduce a quarter for him, I would not have done it.”
