أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَالَ قُلْنَا لِوَاثِلَةَ حَدِّثْنَا حَدِيثًا لَيْسَ فِيهِ زِيَادَةٌ وَلَا نُقْصَانٌ فَغَضِبَ

وَقَالَ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَيُعَلِّقُ الْمُصْحَفَ فِي بَيْتِهِ يَنْظُرُ فِيهِ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَلَا يَحْفَظُ السُّورَةَ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ يُحَدِّثُهُمْ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ حَدِّثْنَا عَافَاكَ اللهُ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَأَقْبَلَ نَفَرٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ صَاحِبَنَا قَدْ أَوْجَبَ قَالَ «فَلْيُعْتِقْ رَقَبَةً فَإِنَّ بِكُلِّ عُضْوٍ عُضْوًا مِنَ النَّارِ»

✧ And he said: "One of you would hang a mushaf in his house, looking at it at the two ends of the day, yet he would not memorize the surah." He said: Then he turned to the people, narrating to them. He said: I said to him: Narrate to us, may Allah grant you well-being. He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah in the campaign of Tabuk when a group from Banu Sulaym came and said: O Messenger of Allah, our companion has made [the Fire] obligatory. He said: "Let him free a slave, for with every limb [of the slave] there is a limb [of his] from the Fire."
