✧ The virtue of emancipation

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْخٌ كُوفِيٌّ يُقَالُ لَهُ شُعْبَةُ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى فَقَالَ

لِبَنِيهِ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَبِلَالٍ وَغَيْرِهِمْ يَا بَنِيَّ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ حَدِيثًا حَدَّثَنِيهِ أَبِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ «مَنْ يَعْنِي أَعْتَقَ رَقَبَةً أَعْتَقَ اللهُ مَكَانَ كُلِّ عُضْوٍ مِنْهُ عُضْوًا مِنَ النَّارِ»

Translation

✧ He said to his sons Abdullah, Bilal, and others: "O my sons, shall I not tell you a hadith that my father narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" They said, "Yes." He said: "Whoever—meaning—frees a slave, Allah will free from the Fire a limb of his in place of every limb of the slave."
