أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ عَنْ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هَمَّامٍ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أُرْسِلُ الْكِلَابَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ فَيُمْسِكنَ عَلَيَّ أَفَآكُلُ مِنْهُ قَالَ «إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ الْكِلَابَ يَعْنِي الْمُعَلَّمَةَ وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللهِ فَأَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ فَكُلْ» قُلْتُ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ؟ قَالَ «وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ مَا لَمْ يَشْرَكْهَا كَلْبٌ لَيْسَ مِنْهَا» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَرْمِي الصَّيْدَ بِالْمِعْرَاضِ فَأُصِيبُ فَآكُلُ قَالَ «إِذَا رَمَيْتَ بِالْمِعْرَاضِ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَخَزَقَ فَكُلْ وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ»

✧ I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I send trained dogs and they hold the game back for me; may I eat from it?” He said, “If you send trained dogs—meaning the trained ones—and you mention the name of Allah, and they hold it back for you, then eat.” I said, “Even if they kill it?” He said, “Even if they kill it, as long as no dog other than them has shared in it.” I said, “I shoot game with a miʿrāḍ and hit it, and I eat.” He said, “If you shoot with a miʿrāḍ and you mention the name of Allah, and it pierces, then eat; but if it strikes with its broad side, then do not eat.”
