✧ Fulfilling the vow

أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي جَمْرَةَ وَاسْمُهُ نَصْرُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ يَذْكُرُ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «خَيْرُكُمْ قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ» فَلَا أَدْرِي ذَكَرَ قَرْنَيْنِ بَعْدُ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةً ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قَوْمًا يَخُونُونَ وَلَا يَؤْتَمَنُونَ وَيَشهَدُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُونَ وَيَنْذِرُونَ وَلَا يُوفُونَ وَيَظْهَرُ فِيهِمُ السِّمَنُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them.” I do not know whether he mentioned two generations after or three. Then he mentioned a people who betray and are not trusted, who testify though they are not asked to testify, who make vows but do not fulfill them, and among whom obesity appears.
