✧ The oath of the fathers

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «أَلَا إِنَّ اللهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ فَوَاللهِ مَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا»

Translation

✧ That the Prophet ﷺ said: "Verily, Allah forbids you from swearing by your fathers. By Allah, I have never sworn by them after that, whether stating it myself or reporting it from another."
