✧ The oath of the fathers

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عُمَرَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ وَأَبِي وَأَبِي فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ» قَالَ عُمَرُ فَوَاللهِ مَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا

✧ The Prophet ﷺ heard 'Umar saying, 'By my father, by my father,' and said: 'Allah forbids you to swear by your fathers.' 'Umar said: 'By Allah, I never swore by them after that, neither intentionally nor repeating it from someone else.'
