✧ The Virtue of the Scholars of the City

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَضْرِبُونَ أَكْبَادَ الْإِبِلِ يَطْلُبُونَ الْعِلْمَ فَلَا يَجِدُونَ عَالِمًا أَعْلَمَ مِنْ عَالِمِ الْمَدِينَةِ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هَذَا خَطَأٌ وَالصَّوَابُ أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “They will beat the livers of camels seeking knowledge, and they will not find a scholar more learned than the scholar of al-Madīnah.” Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: This is a mistake; the correct chain is Abū al-Zubayr from Abū Ṣāliḥ.
