أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ

قَالَ يَهُودِيٌّ لِعُمَرَ لَوْ عَلَيْنَا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ لَاتَّخَذْنَاهُ عِيدًا {الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ} [المائدة 3] قَالَ عُمَرُ «قَدْ عَلِمْتُ الْيَوْمَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ فِيهِ وَاللَّيْلَةَ الَّتِي نَزَلَتْ لَيْلَةُ الْجُمُعَةِ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِعَرَفَاتٍ»

Translation

✧ A Jew said to 'Umar: 'If this verse had been sent down upon us, we would have taken it as a festival: "This day I have perfected for you your religion" [al-Ma'idah 3].' 'Umar said: 'I know the day on which it was sent down and the night in which it descended: the night of Friday, while we were with the Messenger of God ﷺ at 'Arafat.'
