أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَكُنْتُمْ تَكْرَهُونَ الطَّوَافَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ قَالَ

نَعَمْ كُنَّا نَكْرَهُ الطَّوَافَ بَيْنَهُمَا لِأَنَّهُمَا مِنْ شَعَائِرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللهِ} [البقرة 158]

✧ Yes, we used to dislike performing the tawaf between them because they were among the rites of the Jahiliyyah, until this verse was revealed: {Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah} [al-Baqarah 158].
